Health

Prescribed Medicine: If students need to take any form of medical prescription during the day, please call at the school office to sign a form. No medicine is to be taken to classrooms or left in school bags, as this could present a danger to other children. It is the child’s responsibility to come to the office for the administration of the medication.

Year 7 Injections: The Health Nurse completes a number of vaccinations during the year. Parents are fully informed and consent obtained.

First Aid: Should a child suffer an accident at school, they will be attended to, and if it is felt that a Doctor’s advice is necessary, the parents will be contacted immediately. It is expected that the school will be notified of any change in home address, phone number, work/contact phone number.

Dental Clinic: The Dental service is shared between local schools. Our local hub for appointments is based at View Road School. Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm (or school hours/part-time staffing; call to confirm daily therapist presence).

School SkiDs

We’re proud to partner with sKids (Safe Kids in Daily Supervision), New Zealand’s trusted Out of School Care provider with over 30 years of experience supporting families nationwide.

Conveniently located onsite at our school, sKids provides a safe, engaging and supportive environment for our students beyond the classroom.

Their programmes include before school care, after school care and their action-packed holiday programme during the school breaks. Each term offers fresh and varied activities giving children opportunities to play, learn and grow in a fun and supervised setting.

All sKids programmes are eligible for government subsidies (the OSCAR Subsidy) on the cost of care, making quality care more accessible for families.

Why These Rules Exist

Health and Safety: Rings, dangling earrings, and necklaces can easily catch on playground equipment, during sports, or during technology/science practical classes, causing severe injury.

Equality and Focus: Limiting personal jewellery minimizes peer pressure, reduces distractions in the learning environment, and prevents the loss of expensive personal items.

Our PTA Facebook Link

Our PTA is made up of a group of Mums and Dads whose children are students at Sandspit Road School.  They volunteer their time to run / help out with fundraising for the school.

Each year the PTA organises events such as  sausage sizzles, colour runs, discos, quiz nights, lolly stalls and much more.

The money raised throughout the year is gifted back to the school to help out with funding for things that support our tamariki in various ways. Examples include school trips, kapa haka uniforms, sports equipment, eazy rollers, school camps, theatre visits, play equipment, gazebos, and so much more.

The PTA meet twice a term on a Monday  in the staffroom at school.  Meetings are to discuss upcoming events and how previous events went.  It's a really good way to keep involved and up to date in your children's school life.
If you're a parent or caregiver of a Sandspit Road School student,  you are welcome  to come along and join the team in whatever way, big or small, you can help.  The more hands make light work. We are always looking for new members!

Transport and Parking

Sandspit Road School appreciates cooperation from our school community in ensuring a road safe environment at and around the school. Staff and visitors to the school travelling by vehicle, including parents/caregivers and whaanau, are expected to follow road rules and school guidelines about driving and parking at or near the school. We communicate our expectations about road safety (including pick-up/drop-off and parking) to the school community at the start of each school year and throughout the year as required.

We have approved drop-off and pick-up areas for students transported to or from school by private vehicles and we run a road patrol crossing for students who walk to and from school.

In keeping with the police recommendation that children under 10 should only bike with an adult, we only allow students 10 or over to bike to school without an adult and returned a signed parent/caregiver permission form. Students must place their bikes and scooters in the bike stands and must not use wheels in the school grounds during school hours, unless it is an organised school event.

We need you! Volunteer Positions

If you would like to volunteer for events at school please pop into the office. For some events, such as volunteering for school camp, a police vetting is required.
