We deeply value the relationships we share with the parents and caregivers of our students. We also place significant importance on the well-being of our busy, dedicated staff. Your news, feedback, questions, and insights are always welcomed and appreciated. This document outlines the communication expectations within the school community, ensuring that staff, students and whaanau engage in respectful, timely, and professional communication. Here are a few helpful tips to ensure your comments or questions reach the right person quickly and efficiently whilst also aligning to the staff right to disconnect from work to support staff wellbeing.
Email protocol
You are welcome to email staff members between 7:30am and 5:30pm, Monday-Friday. However, if you are emailing outside these hours, please use ‘delay send’ to ensure your email arrives within this timeframe. Staff will not answer enquiries outside these hours. Similarly, staff will not reply to emails during weekends or holidays. Please allow at least 48 hours during the school week for a reply.
Your child’s teacher should be the first point of contact.
Face-to-face meetings with staff members
Our doors are always open, and we look forward to meeting you. Please don’t hesitate to get in contact with the classroom teacher to celebrate your child’s achievements, talk about your child’s learning or if you have any concerns you would like to discuss. Please make an appointment with your child’s teacher, or team leader or a member of the Senior Leadership Team, by emailing the relevant person. If you don’t have the email address you need, email the Office at admin@sandspit.school.nz with your request. Please allow plenty of advance notice to arrange a mutually convenient time for the meeting.
Most importantly, let’s show your children that we are working together as a team in helping each other to help them.
